Bears Waiving LB Jonathan Anderson, Promoting LB John Timu

Brad Biggs reports that the Bears have informed LB Jonathan Anderson that he’s being waived. The Bears are promoting LB John Timu to their active roster to take his place.

  • According to Biggs, the Bears also waived TE Greg Scruggs.
  • Biggs adds that the Bears would like to re-sign Anderson to their practice squad if he clears waivers.

Anderson, 24, wound up signing on with the Bears as an undrafted free agent out of TCU back in May of last year. He was unable to make the 53-man roster coming out of the preseason but was later added to the team’s practice squad.

The Bears eventually promoted Anderson to their active roster.

In 2016, Anderson has appeared in three games and recorded four tackles for the Bears.

Timu, 24, signed on with the Bears as an undrafted free agent out of Washington back in May of last year. He managed to make the 53-man roster coming out of the preseason but was later waived during the season and added to their practice squad.

Chicago elected to cut Timu loose coming out of the preseason close to a month ago before adding him to their practice squad.

In 2015, Timu appeared in seven games for the Bears and recorded 24 tackles, two fumble recoveries and no sacks.
