Bears Waive WR Tanner Gentry, Promote S DeAndre Houston-Carson

The Chicago Bears announced Tuesday that they’ve waived WR Tanner Gentry and promoted S DeAndre Houston-Carson to their active roster.

The Bears also signed DL Mike Purcell to their practice squad.

  • Adam Jahns first reported that the Bears were waiving Gentry and are hoping to re-sign him to their practice squad in the coming days if he clears waivers.

Gentry, 23, wound up signing a three-year, $1.66 million contract with the Bears as an undrafted free agent out of Wyoming back in May. He was set to make base salaries of $465,000 and $555,000 over the first two years of the contract when the Bears cut him loose coming out of the preseason and later signed him to their practice squad.

Chicago promoted Gentry to their active roster last week after they lost Kevin White for the season.

In 2017, Gentry has appeared in one game and caught two passes for 27 yards receiving and no touchdowns.

During his college career, Gentry caught 180 passes for 2,815 yards receiving and 20 touchdowns over the course of 42 games.
