Bears Won’t Franchise CB Kyle Fuller

Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports multiple sources have told him that the Bears are not going to use their franchise tag on CB Kyle Fuller.

Biggs adds that the transition tag could still be in play for Fuller.

Biggs says that Fuller would like to return to the Bears and the feeling is likely mutual. Even so, Biggs admits it’s unlikely the two parties will have a long-term extension in place before the start of free agency.

The franchise tag would have cost the Bears close to $15 million fully guaranteed for the 2018 season.

Fuller, 26, is a former first-round pick of the Bears back in 2014. He played out the final year of his four-year, $9,687,002 contract and is now in position to be an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his NFL career.

It’s worth mentioning that the Bears declined Fuller’s fifth-year option last year that would have paid him $8,526,000 for the 2018 season.

In 2017, Fuller appeared in all 16 games for the Bears and recorded 69 tackles, two interceptions and 22 pass defenses. Pro Football Focus had him rated as the No. 23 cornerback out of 120 qualifying player.

We have him featured in our Top 100  – 2018 NFL Free Agents list.
