Bears WR Earl Bennett Takes A Pay Cut

Brian McIntyre of Yahoo Sports reports that Chicago Bears WR Earl Bennett agreed to pay cut earlier this week.

According to McIntyre, Bennett reduced his 2013 salary of $2.25 million by $1 million. The Bears freed up $1 million in cash and cap space with this move.

Bennett, 26, signed a five-year deal worth $18.55 million, which included $9 million guaranteed back in 2011. He’s still under contract for another three years, but it appears unlikely that he’ll finish out this deal with the Bears.

Chicago reportedly discussed the idea of trading Bennett a few weeks ago, but obviously didn’t find any takers before they were forced to make roster cuts. Bennett looks to be the Bears No. 3 receiver this season behind Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery.
