Bears WR Eric Weems Accepts Pay Cut

According to Adam Hoge of CBS Chicago, Bears WR Eric Weems has accepted a pay cut to be back in Chicago next year.

The last we heard regarding Weems was that he had declined to take a pay cut was expected to be released.

Hoge mentions that Weems’ base salary has been reduced from $1 million to $730,000 for the 2014 season. Chicago frees up $270,000 in available cap space and could gain another $830,000 if they were to release him at some point later in the offseason.

Weems, 28, signed a three-year, $4.2 million contract that included a $1.5 million signing bonus with the Bears back in 2012.

Last year, Weems appeared in all 16 games for the Bears, but contributed just one reception for 8 yards. However, Pro Football Focus did have him rated as an above average special teams player.
