Bengals & A.J. Green Have Discussed An Extension, Green’s Comfortable Playing Out Year Under Option

Bengals WR A.J. Green told reporters on Monday that his representatives met with the team at the Scouting Combine regarding a long-term extension, per Coley Harvey.

However, Green said that he’s in no hurry to get a deal done, considering that none of the other top receivers from the 2012 draft class have signed extensions yet.

Green added that he’s content playing out the 2015 season under his fifth-year option, per Harvey.

Green, 26, is in line for a massive contract extension that will leave him among the highest paid receivers in the NFL. It’s really not surprising to hear that he’s comfortable playing out the year, given that the salary cap continues to increase and top-tier receivers have fared really well in free agency.

The Bengals will pay Green a salary of $10.176 million that is guaranteed only for injury and won’t prevent them from working on an extension that would offer some cap relief.

In 2014, Green appeared in 13 games and caught 69 passes for 1,041 yards receiving and six touchdowns for the Bengals. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 15 receiver out of 110 qualifying players.
