Bengals & HC Marvin Lewis Agree To One-Year Extension

The Cincinnati Bengals officially announced Monday that they’ve signed HC Marvin Lewis to a one-year contract extension.

“I commend Marvin’s achievements,” Mike Brown said the day the meetings ended in Boca Raton, Fla. “He’s done remarkably well with our football team in recent years especially. I respect him. I like him personally.”

Mike Silver of NFL Media reports that the Bengals have agreed to a contract extension with HC Marvin Lewis that will keep him under team control through the 2017 season.

Earlier in the week, a report said that the is growing impatience from Bengals owner Mike Brown regarding Lewis, and the fact that they haven’t won a single playoff game during Lewis’ tenure as head coach.

A one-year extension is likely to prevent him from being a lame-duck coach, so it’s still possible the Bengals could move on if things don’t go well in 2016.

Lewis, 57, is among the longest tenured head coaches in the NFL. He was hired back in 2003 and has led them to a record of 112-94-2 (54.3 percent) to go along with four division championships. However, he’s 0-7 in the playoffs.
