Bengals Are Expected To Use A Running Back By Committee Approach In 2012

Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com writes that Cincinnati OC Jay Gruden is expected to use a “running back by committee” approach for the upcoming season.

The Bengals made the decision to move on with Cedric Benson during the offseason, while replacing him with BenJarvus Green-Ellis. Still, Cincinnati will most likely be rotating Bernard Scott and Brian Leonard into their offense, with Green-Ellis likely to get majority of the team’s goalline carries.

This approach has essentially become the norm in the NFL. Running backs have seen their value decrease significantly in recent year’s, mainly because team’s prefer to keep a stable of backs with fresh legs as opposed to grinding things out with just one guy. It’s hard to argue with the logic, but it will be interesting to see how this group of players looks during the preseason.
