Bengals Close To An Agreement With WR Brandon LaFell

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, citing a league source, reports that the Bengals and WR Brandon LaFell are closing in on an agreement.

LaFell visited with the team last week, and the Bengals have an obvious need at receiver after Marvin Jones and Mohamed Sanu both departed for big contracts with the Lions and Falcons respectively.

Cincinnati did re-sign Brandon Tate, but they’re going to need more help at the position to ensure their offense doesn’t take a step back in 2016.

It’s worth mentioning that signing LaFell  to a contract wouldn’t factor into a team’s 2017 compensatory picks.

LaFell, 29, was in the final year of his three-year, $9 million contract and was set to make a base salary of $2.4 million for the 2016 season when the Patriots cut him loose less than a week before the start of free agency.

In 2015, LaFell appeared in 11 games for the Patriots and recorded 37 receptions for 515 yards receiving and and a touchdown. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 119 receiver out of 121 qualifying players.
