Bengals Expected To Turn Their Attention To Signing WR A.J. Green

According to Peter King of MMQB.com, Bengals HC Marvin Lewis texted WR A.J. Green right after learning about Andy Dalton‘s contract extension and told Green to have his agent start negotiations with the team.

  • King adds that Lewis wants the team’s core locked up now.

Green mentioned that he’s not particularly concern about his situation.

My body of work speaks for itself,” said Green, via the Cincinnati Enquirer. “…Whenever my time comes, it happens. That’s one thing I don’t think about.

Mike Florio of Pro football Talk, citing a source with knowledge of the situation, reports that a contract for Green isn’t expected “any time soon.

Green is under team control for the next two years after the Bengals exercised Green’s fifth-year option back in April. I’m sure Cincinnati would like to have a long-term agreement with Green in place sooner than later, but it seems likely that his fifth-year option could complicate the situation to some degree.

Green, 26, will make $3,059,739 for the 2014 season and another $10.176 million in 2015. A contract extension should easy net him an annual salary over $10 million and there’s even a chance that he could come close to the contracts of Calvin Johnson and Larry Fitzgerald.

Last year, he totaled 98 receptions for 1,426 yards receiving and 11 touchdowns.
