Bengals Haven’t Responded To LT Andrew Whitworth About An Extension

Bengals veteran LT Andrew Whitworth mentioned that even though he’s reached out the team regarding an extension, he has yet to hear back from them.

It’s not really top of the line customer service,” said Whitworth, via Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com. “Eventually, hopefully, one day that conversation will be had and I’ll be here.”

There’s not been a lot of discussion with it. I mean, if there’s anything, I wish that there had been,” Whitworth said. “But at the end of the day, I’m a big boy and I can handle it and this is my football team, I’m the captain of it and been the leader of it for a long time and don’t plan on letting that change.”

Cincinnati wound up selecting two offensive tackles with their first- and second-round picks, so there is some question about his future with the team.

“It really didn’t matter the draft picks or any of that,” said Whitworth. “For me, it’s more I would like to still be here. Whether that feeling is reciprocated, I don’t know yet. I’ve asked but I haven’t been responded to. I hope it is.

Whitworth, 33, is in the final year five-year, $30.4 million contract that included $5 million guaranteed. He stands to make a base salary of $5 million for the 2015 season.

Last year, Whitworth appeared in all 16 games for the Bengals and was rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 2 offensive tackle of 84 qualifying players.
