ESPN Adam Caplan, citing a league source, reports that the Cincinnati Bengals have reached an agreement with LB Vontaze Burfict on a multi-year contract extension.

  • ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Burfict receives a four-year contract $20 million, which includes $7.6 million guaranteed.
  • According to Caplan, Burfict will earn $9.75 million by next March and $11 million over the first two years of the extension.
  • Burfict is now under team control through the 2017 season.

Recent reports mentioned that the two sides were at an impasse in contract talks, but the Bengals maintained all along that keeping Burfict long-term was a priority for them.

Burfict, 23, wound up going undrafted out of Arizona State back in 2012 due to numerous concerns, but he has quickly developed into the Bengals’ best linebacker, and ended up leading the NFL tackles last season.

Burfict was entering the final year of his contract and would have been a restricted free agent next year. He was set to make just $570,000 for the 2014 season, so you can see that he has clearly earned a significant pay raise.

Last year, he totaled 170 tackles, three sacks, an interception, a forced fumble, two recoveries and a defensive touchdown.
