Bengals Likely To Trade Backup QB A.J. McCarron This Offseason?

According to Paul Dehner of the Cincinnati Enquirer, the Bengals trading QB A.J. McCarron is “a part of the offseason itinerary” and is a matter of “when, where and who will provide the most value.”

On Monday, McCarron admitted that the idea of him possibly being traded has been something he’s thought about since the Bengals drafted him a few years ago.

“Now, it’s nothing I can do,” McCarron said, via Jim Owczarski of the Cincinnati Enquirer. “I try not to worry about it. You’re always gonna think about it. I’d be lyin’; whoever told you that I wouldn’t, or if they were going through the same situation, you’re going to think about it. Because you want to play as a competitor. I’ll let my agent handle everything and go with whatever he says.

McCarron did, however, say that he wouldn’t be upset if the Bengals elected to trade him to a team in the coming months.

No,” McCarron said when asked about it. “I definitely wouldn’t be distraught at all. Like I told Marvin (Lewis) and all my coaches in my exit meetings, I appreciate everybody in this organization. I really do. From the bottom of my heart. They gave me a chance when a lot of people wouldn’t. They all treated me unbelievably and I really do care for every one of ‘em and respect all ‘em. This place will always have a special place in my heart just for what they’ve done for me. I really appreciated it.

It makes sense for the Bengals to see what they can get in a trade for McCarron, considering that they have their quarterback in place with Andy Dalton and even have a young quarterback on their roster in Jeff Driskel.

McCarron, 26, is a former fifth-round pick of the Bengals back in 2014. He’s entering the final year of his four-year, $2,401,652 contract and stands to make a base salary of $690,000 for the 2017 season.

In 2015, McCarron appeared in seven games for the Bengals and completed 66.4 percent of his passes for 854 yards to go along with six touchdowns and two interceptions.

We’ll have more regarding a potential trade involving McCarron as the news is available.
