Bengals & LT Andrew Whitworth Expected To Discuss New Deal In Coming Weeks

Pat Dye Jr., the agent for Bengals LT Andrew Whitworth, mentioned that he’s spoken to the team about a new deal for his client and expects them to continue to discuss a potential agreement in the coming weeks.

“He’s played his whole career there and it would be cool to finish his career there. We’ll see,” Dye said, via Bengals.com. “There’s a lot of ground to cover between now and March the ninth when free agency begins.

“We’ve got a lot of history with the organization,” Dye said. “We get along well with the Brown family and Blackburn family. There’s a little bit of a kindred spirit since we’re both with football families.”

Towards the end of last season, Whitworth made the decision to move to guard and allow 2015 first-round pick Cedric Ogbuehi to play left tackle. Whitworth, of course, didn’t have to do that and could have made an issue out of the situation, but it shows his commitment to the team.

Whitworth, 35, is a former second-round pick of the Bengals back in 2006. He’s finished out the final year of his two-year, $14.2 million contract and is now in position to test the open market as an unrestricted free agent next year.

In 2016, Whitworth has appeared in all 16 games for the Bengals and is rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 2 offensive tackle out of 78 qualifying players.
