Bengals Pick Up CB Dre Kirkpatrick & G Kevin Zeitler’s Fifth-Year Options

Albert Breer of NFL Media reports that the Bengals have exercised CB Dre Kirkpatrick and G Kevin Zeitler‘s fifth-year options on Tuesday.

There was talk recently that the Bengals would like to sign both players to a contract extensions, but picking up their options will not prevent them from reaching an agreement on a long-term deal with either player.

The Bengals are looking at paying Kirkpatrick $7.507 million and Zeitler $8.07 million for the 2016 season. However, this figure is guaranteed for injury only.

Kirkpatrick, 25, was entering the final year of his four-year, $8.622 million rookie contract. He stands to make a base salary of $782,931 for the 2015 season.

In 2014, Kirkpatrick appeared in all 16 games for the Bengals and recorded 23 tackles, three interceptions with one being returned for a touchdown, and seven pass defenses.

Zeitler, 25, was also entering the final year of his four-year, $7.544 million rookie contract, which includes a base salary of $1,418,754 for the 2015 season.

Last year, Zeitler was limited to appearing in 12 games due to a foot injury. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 9 guard out of qualifying 78 players.
