Bengals Place TE Tyler Eifert On IR, Activate LB Vontaze Burfict

The Cincinnati Bengals announced Friday that they’ve activated LB Vontaze Burfict from the exempt list and placed TE Tyler Eifert on injured reserve.

Eifert suffered a season-ending broken ankle last weekend, so this move was expected.

Eifert, 28, is a first-round pick of the Bengals back in 2013. He played out the final year of his four-year, $8.256 million contract and finished the 2017 season under the fifth-year option.

The Bengals brought Eifert back on a one-year contract this past March and he’ll get another opportunity to test the open market in 2019.

In 2018, Eifert appeared in four games for the Bengals and caught 15 passes for 179 yards receiving and one touchdown.

Burfict, 28, wound up signing on with the Bengals as an undrafted free agent out of Arizona State back in 2012. He was in the final year of his four-year, $20 million contract when the Bengals signed him to a three-year $38.68M extension last year.

Burfict stands to make base salaries of $3.81 million (2018), $5 million (2019), and $6.18 million (2020) over the remainder of the contract.

In 2017, Burfict appeared in 10 games and recorded 69 tackles, two sacks, a forced fumble and two pass defenses. Pro Football Focus had him rated as the No. 12 linebacker out of 87 qualifying players.
