Bengals Plan To Discuss An Extension With QB Andy Dalton This Offseason

We missed this one on Friday.

Bengals HC Marvin Lewis told reporters during his combine press conference that he expects the team’s front office to discuss a long-term contract extension. with QB Andy Dalton at some point during the offseason.

As a football team we would like to keep to continue to keep our good, young players,” Lewis said, via Bengals.com. “The representatives from his side and our team will get together and try to discuss something. We feel good about what Andy has done the past three seasons and we have to continue to help him to continue to play better.”

Lewis added that he is “very confident” in Dalton’s ability to take the team to where they want to be in the coming years.

“I’m very confident. And totally convinced,” Lewis said. “I don’t know how much more convinced and confident I could be with that. He is our quarterback.”

Dalton, 26, is entering the final year of his rookie contract and has a base salary of  $986,027 coming his way in 2014. On the positive side, Dalton has led Cincinnati to the playoffs in each of his three season in the NFL. The downside, of course, is that they have lost all three of those playoff games.

He threw for a career-highs in passing yards (4,296 ) and touchdowns (33) last season. Pro Football Focus rated Dalton as the No. 17 quarterback in league.

Dalton is the only quarterback to lead the Cincinnati Bengals to three consecutive playoff berths,
