Bengals Release QB Josh Johnson, Waive Two

The Cincinnati Bengals announced a few roster moves on Tuesday including the release of veteran QB Josh Johnson. Cincinnati also waived S Erick Dargan and DT Kalafitoni Pole.

Johnson, 29, is a former fifth round pick of the Buccaneers back in 2012. Since then, he’s played for a number of teams including the Browns, Bengals, Chargers, and 49ers.

Last year, Johnson signed a one-year contract with the 49ers back in May, but wound up being the team’s No. 3 quarterback behind Blaine Gabbert.

The Bengals signed Johnson to a contract back in April, but it appears as though they prefer to move forward with A.J. McCarron as their backup quarterback.

Johnson hasn’t appeared in an NFL game since the 2013 season while playing for the Bengals.
