Bengals Release QB Josh Johnson

The Cincinnati Bengals announced the release of QB Josh Johnson on Monday.

Johnson, 27, lasted a little over a year with the Bengals after playing for the Browns, 49ers and Buccaneers since entering the NFL back in 2009.

It became quite clear that one of Jason Campbell or Johnson was going to be on the chopping block after the Bengals selected Alabama QB A.J. McCarron in the fifth-round of this year’s draft.

Johnson has flashed some ability at times, but it appears as though no one sees him as anything more than a No. 3 quarterback at best.
