Bengals Release LB Rey Maualuga

The Cincinnati Bengals announced that they have released veteran ILB Rey Maualuga on Saturday.

Maualuga, 30, is a former second-round pick of the Bengals back in 2009. He was entering the final year of his three-year, $15 million contract and was set to make a base salary of $3.7 million in 2017.

According to OverTheCap.com, the Bengals will create $3,668,750 in available cap space by releasing him.

In 2016, Maualuga appeared in 14 games for the Bengals and recorded 27 total tackles, one interception and two pass defenses. Pro Football Focus rated him as the No. 85 overall linebacker out of 87 qualifying players.
