Bengals CB Dre Kirkpatrick’s Injury Progressing Well

Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis mentioned that CB Dre Kirkpatrick is “pretty far along now” in regards to his recent knee injury. Lewis added that it’s really just a “minor” issue.

It’s a setback for him because he is going to have to take some time but the good thing is he’s here with our people, he’s done everything asked of him, it’s been a couple of weeks so he’s pretty far along now with it,” Lewis said, via Pro Football Talk. “Really too much gets made of this stuff and I know there’s nothing else important and I know that’s the deal.”

The NFL Network reports that Bengals will be without first-round pick Dre Kirkpatrick for the next six weeks after he suffered a fractured knee bone yesterday.

This will almost certainly have an impact his ability to be ready for the beginning of the season. Leon Hall is recovering from an injury of his own, so the Bengals will have to count on Nate Clements, Terence Newman and Pacman Jones to solidify their secondary, which may be asking a lot.

According to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, Bengals first-round pick CB Dre Kirkpatrick suffered an injury in the “knee area,” which could force him to miss a good portion of the team’s upcoming training camp.

So far, the Bengals have yet to address the issue, but if the initial estimates are accurate, Kirkpatrick’s injury doesn’t appear to be all that severe. There’s still a chance that it could be worse than expected, but we’ll have to wait until more information is available.

Cincinnati is hoping that Kirkpatrick could help fill the void left by the loss of Jonathan Joseph. This could actually help Pacman Jones secure a roster spot, depending on how long Kirkpatrick is out, as he was rumored to be on the chopping block.
