Bengals Sign LB Aaron Maybin To Reserve Contract

According to Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com, Cincinnati will most likely use newly signed LB Aaron Maybin at strong-side linebacker next season.

Maybin, the 11th pick in the 2009 draft,  is looking to revive his career in Cincinnati where head coach Marvin Lewis has a long history of working reclamation projects such as Adam Jones, Thomas Howard  and Vontaze Burfict to name a few.

Maybin is set to become a SAM linebacker in a 4-3 defense, lining up against opposing tight ends to then come down to rush off the edge in passing situations.

Maybin has been used as a  a 3-4 outside linebacker in both stints with previous teams. He had originally been drafted by the Bills, but was cut after two seasons in which he failed to record even a single sack. After Buffalo, Maybin joined the Jets where he was originally cut, only to be brought back a few weeks later and surprisingly would end up leading the team in sacks and forced fumbles in 2011. He was, however, let go of again during the season after not being able to record a single sack.

It will be interesting to see what defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer can do with Maybin next season.
