Bengals Sign LB Kevin Minter To One-Year Deal Worth Up To $4.5M

Josina Anderson reports that the Bengals are signing former Cardinals ILB Kevin Minter to a contract.

  • According to Jim Owczarski of the Cincinnati Enquirer, Minter’s one-year contract with the Bengals is worth up $4.5 million.
  • Owczarski adds that the Bengals wanted to sign Minter to more of a long-term agreement, but he elected to take a “prove it” deal.

Minter visited with the Colts and Bengals as a free agent, but it looks like Cincinnati proved to be his best opportunity.

The inside linebacker market has been slow-moving, so this could be the start of some more moves involving other notable options like Zach Brown and Gerald Hodges.

Minter, 26, is a former second-round pick of the Cardinals back in 2013. He played out his four-year, $4,390,288 contract with the Cardinals and was testing the open market as an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his career.

In 2016, Minter appeared in all 16 games for the Cardinals and recorded 81 tackles, 3.5 sacks, and two pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 25 linebacker out of 87 qualifying players.

We had him featured in our Top 50 Available Free Agents list.
