Bengals Signing Veteran CB Bene Benwikere

Tom Pelissero of USA Today is reporting that veteran CB Bene Benwikere is signing with the Bengals on Tuesday after visiting four interested teams in recent weeks.

Benwikere previously worked out for the Jets, but it appears as though the Bengals were ultimately his best option.

Benwikere, 25, is a former fifth-round pick of the Panthers back in 2014. He’s was in the third year of his four-year, $2.419 million contract and set to make a base salary of $600,000 for the 2016 season when the Panthers elected to cut him loose back in October.

Benwikere was later claimed off of waivers by the Dolphins. However, Miami cut him loose soon after and he was later added to their practice squad. The Packers later signed him to their practice squad a few weeks ago but his contract later expired.

In 2016, Benwikere has appeared in four games for the Panthers and recorded 10 tackles, one interception and four pass defenses for the Panthers. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 87 cornerback out of 111 qualifying players.
