Bengals WR Brandon LaFell Has Torn Hand Ligament, Surgery A Possibility

Mike Garafolo of NFL Media reports that Bengals WR Brandon LaFell is dealing with a torn ligament in his hand and surgery is a possibility.

  • However, this wouldn’t be a season-ending issue for LaFell, according to Garafolo.

Should LaFell miss any amount of time, second-round pick Tyler Boyd would likely be asked to take on a larger role. It’s also possible that the Bengals could look to bring in some more help at receiver for the time being.

LaFell, 29, is a former third-round pick of the Panthers back in 2010. After four years in Carolina, LaFell signed a three-year, $9 million contract with the Patriots, but was cut loose less than a week before the start of free agency.

The Bengals needed to bring in some help at receiver after they lost Marvin Jones and Mohamed Sanu in free agency, so they’re counting on LaFell playing a decent role in their offense.

In 2015, LaFell appeared in 11 games for the Patriots and recorded 37 receptions for 515 yards receiving and and a touchdown. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 119 receiver out of 121 qualifying players.
