Update:

Doug Kyed of NSEN reports that the Broncos have officially placed RB C.J. Anderson on injured reserve Friday.

  • Adam Schefter reported that the Broncos were determining whether to place Anderson on injured reserve following surgery to repair his meniscus tear and expect to make a decision in the next 24 hours

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Broncos RB C.J. Anderson underwent surgery to repair a torn meniscus on Thursday and his recovery period has been “described in months.”

  • According to Rapoport, Anderson can begin jogging in six weeks.
  • Pro Football Talk, citing a source with knowledge of Anderson’s injury, reports that he’ll miss anywhere from 2-8 weeks. According to PFT, it’s too early to be more specific than that.

According to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, the best case scenario for Broncos RB C.J. Anderson could be for him to return from knee surgery in four weeks.

  • La Canfora admits that Anderson may need a few more weeks than that, but a return this season is not out of the question.

Yesterday, Mike Klis reports that Anderson was is undergoing surgery Thursday to repair a “significant, but not completely torn” meniscus in his right knee and is likely be placed on injured reserve.

Denver will start rookie Devontae Booker in place of Anderson if he ends up missing their game against the Chargers but it’s possible they could promote Juwan Thompson to their active roster to add some depth at the position.

Anderson, 25, signed a four-year, $18 million contract that included $10 million guaranteed with the Dolphins during the offseason but because he was a restricted free agent, the Broncos were given the opportunity to make the deal and they did. He stands to make a base salary of $675,000 for the 2016 season.

In 2016, Anderson has appeared in seven games for the Broncos and rushed for 437 yards on 110 carries (4 YPC) to go along with 16 receptions for 128 yards receiving and five total touchdowns.

We’ll have more regarding Anderson’s return as the news is available.
