Bidding War For Santonio Holmes?

Gary Myers of the New York Daily News suggests that there could be a bidding war shaping up for Santonio Holmes services between the New York Jets and the Washington Redskins.

Bringing back Holmes, the top wide receiver playmaker on the market, as an unrestricted free agent is the Jets’ No. 1 priority,” Myers writes. “Sources say the Redskins have also made Holmes their No. 1 priority.”

Redskins owner Daniel Snyder‘s wallet often doesn’t have a conscience — he actually gave Albert Haynesworth $41 million guaranteed two years ago — so [Jets owner] Woody Johnson must be prepared for a battle of the checkbooks.”

Holmes is going to be one of the more sought after free agents in this years free agent class so money isn’t going to be the issue. While Holmes already has a Super Bowl ring, I would still expect him to consider more than just the dollar amount being offered before signing with a team. As now the Redskins look as though they’re going to be heading into the 2011 season with John Beck under center and the drama that occurred in the Redskins locker room last season isn’t likely to help their chances any. I’d expect to see Holmes re-sign with the Jets if they offer up a competitive deal. Washington has been to known to throw huge money at free agents and that’s the one thing that could lure a top free agent but Holmes would be leaving a good thing in New York.
