Bill O’Brien Says He’s Returning To Texans Next Year

John McClain of the Houston Chronicle spoke with Texans HC Bill O’Brien Saturday morning and he assured McClain that he isn’t going anywhere and will instead remain with the team, despite numerous reports that he and the team could part ways after the season.

According to McClain, O’Brien wanted to put an end to all of the speculation about his future and reiterated that he will be back with the team for the 2017 season.

O’Brien was less adamant about where he’ll be coaching next year during a recent interview Mike Silver of NFL Media.

“I got home the other night and my wife (Colleen) asks me, ‘Where are we living next year?’ ” O’Brien said. “Look, things are out there, and you can’t control everything that’s out there. I signed a five-year contract when I came here. I’ve enjoyed coaching here. We like living here. So at the end of the day, the Houston Texans are a place that we enjoy working.

“Whatever the future holds, it holds, but like I said, I have two years left on my contract, so we’ll see what happens.“

Silver reported that a breakup between the Texans and O’Brien is still a possibility, even though the Texans have made it the Divisional Round of the playoffs. According to Silver, it still would be somewhat surprising to see the Texans fire O’Brien.

It’s worth mentioning that Texans owner Bob McNair has said publicly that he will not be firing O’Brien and instead plans on him coaching the team next year.

O’Brien, 47, was hired by the Texans back in 2014 after spending a few years at Penn State. Since taking the job with Houston, O’Brien has led them to a record of 27-21 (56.3 percent) to go along with two playoff appearances.
