Bills Claim LB IK Enemkpali Off Waivers From Jets

Update:

According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, the Bills’ decision to claim LB IK Enemkpali could increase the odds of the Jets pursuing criminal charges against Enemkpali for breaking QB Geno Smith‘s jaw.

Florio mentions that Florham Park Police Department and the Morris County District Attorney will ultimately make the final call to file charges against Enemkpali. However, Smith’s position will be factor in what they elect to do.

Another point made by Florio is that Enemkpali should receive some sort of discipline from the NFL for a workplace violence incident under their new Personal Conduct Policy.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Bills have claimed LB IK Enemkpali off of waivers from the Jets.

  • Gil Brandt has spoken to sources in the past 24 hours who believe former Jets LB IK Enemkpali will get another shot in the NFL.
  • Brandt’s sources said that Enemkpali has enough talent that it’s worth taking a shot on him.
  • Albert Breer reports that at least a couple of NFL teams had Enemkpali off their draft board, due to anger issues.

The Jets cut Enemkpali loose after he sucker punched QB Geno Smith in the fact on Tuesday and broke his jaw. The issue that led to Smith’s broken jaw was reportedly over $600 that Smith owed Enemkpali from a plane ticket that he purchased for the Jets’ quarterback.

There’s an obvious connection here with Enemkpali playing for Bills HC Rex Ryan last year. However, it will be interesting to see what Ryan and GM Doug Whaley have to say about the move.

Enemkpali, 24, was taken in seventh round of the 2014 draft and has three years remaining on his four-year, $2.3 million rookie contract.

In 2014, Enemkpali wound up appearing in six games and recorded three tackles and two pass defenses for the Jets.
