Sources tells Ian Rapoport of NFL Media that Bills QB EJ Manuel has a chance to go a long way to winning the job, depending on how he plays against the Bengals.
According to Rapoport, if Manuel plays well enough, Buffalo could reopen their battle for the starting job.
Manuel is getting the start over Tyrod Taylor, who is reportedly dealing with an MCL sprain. Although, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Taylor expected to dress today, and has good chance to play next week.
Manuel, 25, is a former first round pick of the Bills back in 2013. He has two years remaining on his four-year, $8,885,300 rookie contract and stands to make a base salary of $1,212,755 for the 2015 season.
Taylor, 26, managed to beat out Matt Cassel, who has since been traded to the Cowboys, and EJ Manuel for the starting job during the preseason.
This season, Taylor has thrown for 1,097 yards passing while completing 70.1 percent of his passes to go along with nine touchdowns and four interceptions. Taylor has also contributed 187 yards rushing and two rushing touchdowns over the course of five games.
Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 8 quarterback out of 38 qualifying players.
