Bills Expected To Franchise LT Cordy Glenn If No Long-Term Deal

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Bills are expected to franchise tag LT Cordy Glenn if they can’t work out a long-term deal by March 1.

  • According to Rapoport, Glenn is “unlikely to hit the market.

There was talk that it could be difficult for the Bills to franchise Glenn, given their current cap situation.

However, cutting veteran OLB Mario Williams would create $12.9 million, which could essentially be transferred to Glenn if they franchise him at the cost of $13.706 million.

Last we heard regarding Glenn, Tyler Dunne of the Buffalo News reported that his “floor” could be $10 million annually in his next contract.

Dunne mentions that a number of factors are likely to be in Glenn’s favor this offseason, as he’s still just 26 years old, plays a premium position that has little depth in this year’s free agent market, and rookies have really struggled to make an immediate impact at left tackle in the NFL.

Glenn, 26, has played out his four-year, $4,865,180 rookie contract and is in line to be one of the most sought after free agents in this year’s free agent market.

In 2015, Glenn appeared in all 16 games for the Bills and was rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 9 offensive tackle out of 76 qualifying players.

We have Glenn featured in our Top 100 – 2016 Free Agents list.

  1. The tag won’t last because time says he will be re-signed. Time as in when they free up enough money to do his new contract. Time as in when they cut Mario and a few others while re-structuring some contracts. The tag if applied would be temporary.
