Bills Expected To Revise LeSean McCoy’s Contract & Add Guarantees

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the final piece of the LeSean McCoy trade that sent LB Kiko Alonso to the Eagles is a revised contract for McCoy.

Rapoport mentions that as of now, there are no guarantees remaining in McCoy’s contract beyond the 2015 season.

Last night, Jason La Canfora mentioned that he expects McCoy and his agent to “make noise” about wanting a new extension and/or decline to report. La Canfora even added that the Bills were already bracing for this situation.

A source close to McCoy told Josina Anderson last night that McCoy is “not going to make it easy, that’s for sure.”

McCoy, 26, still has three years remaining on his six-year, $45.615 million contract that includes $20.765 million guaranteed. He stands to make base salaries of $9.75 million (2015), $6.9 million (2016), and $7.6 million (2017) coming his way over the next three years.

According to OverTheCap.com, only $1 million of his $9.75 million 2015 base salary is guaranteed, so it’s really not surprising to see his agent try to exploit the situation for additional guarantees.

The Bills could even pick up some extra cap space in the process, so this seems like a possible win-win for both parties.

Last year, McCoy ran for 1,319 yards on 314 carries (4.2 YPC) to go along with 28 receptions for 155 yards receiving and five total touchdowns.
