Bills Expecting To Re-Sign DE Jerry Hughes

Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports reports that the Bills are “intent” on getting on a contract in place with free agent DE Jerry Hughes and it sounds like something will get done.

Yesterday, Robinson mentions that the Bills were “working hard” to re-sign him, so this news really shouldn’t come as a big surprise.

According to Robinson, the Jaguars are the richest outside suitor, even though teams like the Bears, Jets, and Giants have reportedly shown interest in him.

Earlier in the week, Pro Football Talk mentioned that the Jets decision to re-sign ILB David Harris to a three-year contract worth $21 million increases the likelihood that the Bills would try to bring back Hughes.

Hughes and his agent are clearly aware that they’re in a position of leverage, seeing as he’s likely to be one of the most sought after defensive ends in free agency.

It will be interesting to see the kind of salary and guarantees he’s able secure in the end.

Hughes, 26, recorded 53 tackles, 9.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, one recovery and even scored a defensive touchdown for the Bills defense. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 14 defensive end in a 4-3 system out of 59 qualifying players.

We have Hughes currently listed as the No. 10 player in our Top 100 Free Agents list.
