Bills LB IK Enemkpali Suspended 4 Games For Punching Geno Smith

Update:

John Wawrow of the Associated Press, citing a person familiar with the decision, reports that the NFL will, in fact, be suspending Bills LB IK Enemkpali for the first four games of the season for punching Jets QB Geno Smith.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Bills LB IK Enemkpali is facing a four- to six-game suspension for the incident in which he punched Jets QB Geno Smith and broke his jaw.

  • According to Rapoport, Enemkpali is currently appealing his suspension, which could be as many as six games.
  • Rapoport adds that Smith is not facing a suspension for his role in the matter.

A suspension was expected to be handed down at some point, but there had been no word as to how long he could be out until today.

Enemkpali, 24, was taken in seventh round of the 2014 draft and has three years remaining on his four-year, $2.3 million rookie contract. The Bills wound up claiming him off of waivers a few weeks ago after he was cut by the Jets.

Buffallo wound up cutting him loose this past weekend, but they later added him to their practice squad.

In 2014, Enemkpali wound up appearing in six games and recorded three tackles and two pass defenses for the Jets.
