Bills LB Nigel Bradham Suspended One Game For Substance-Abuse Violation

The NFL announced Wednesday that Bills LB Nigel Bradham has been suspended one game for violating the league’s substance-abuse policy.

Bradham was arrested for marijuana possession last summer, and that offense is likely the basis for this suspension.

This is a significant blow to the Buffalo defense-despite its brevity-considering that LB Kiko Alonso is already out for the 2014 season.  Bradham has been practicing with the first unit in camp, so the Buffalo linebacking corps will be shorthanded when they visit Chicago in week one.

The plan was to move Alonso to the weak side spot before his injury, with Bradham being the back-up.  The Bills did sign free agent LB Stevenson Sylvester away from the Steelers when Alonso went down.  So he appears to be the natural replacement.

Buffalo’s linebacking corps will have several new faces this season, including veteran linebackers Brandon Spikes and Keith Rivers.  Bradham’s suspension will not help accelerate the learning curve for this new unit.
