Bills Only Guarantee RB Fred Jackson $3 Million

The Buffalo Bills recently re-signed RB Fred Jackson to a two-year contract extension. Brian McIntyre of Mac’s Football Blog reports that Jackson was only guaranteed a $3 million signing bonus.

This means that the bills could essentially release Jackson following the season and only have to pay him his signing bonus. Jackson’s deal does include $8.7 million in new money, with $5.405 million coming in 2012. After that, his 2013 and 2014 salaries will $3.7 million in each season.

From the Bills standpoint, this is certainly a great deal. Jackson is currently 31 years old and plays a very unforgiving position that requires fresh legs, so it does make sense for the Bills to offer him a fairly limited contract, especially with C.J. Spiller already on their roster.
