Report: Bills Willing To Listen To Offers For S Jairus Byrd

Bills GM Doug Whaley told reporters that they are willing to listen to offers for FS Jairus Byrd, but added that they are not openly shopping him right now.

“Our focus right now is Jairus getting on the field and playing the best he can for the Buffalo Bills,” Whaley said, via the Associated Press. “We are not actively on the phone hammering out trying to look for a trade. By the same token, (team president) Russ Brandon would listen if someone wanted to trade.

“So if the phone rings, we’re going to listen. But that doesn’t mean we’re out trying to trade.”

Byrd is reportedly seeking a similar contract to that of Eric Weddle, who received a five-year, $40 million deal from the Chargers. Buffalo will most likely want an early round pick for Byrd, but the fact that he’ll be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season will most likely factor into what they can get in return for him.

Whaley added that there is still a chance that they could work out a long-term deal that would keep Byrd in Buffalo beyond this season at some point.

“Absolutely, I mean there’s always a possibility,” Whaley said. “It’s one of those things where you can never say never. Will he be on the team? We hope so. We’re not sure, but we’re going to do everything that’s best for the Buffalo Bills in the future.”

We have Bryd listed as the No. 2 player in our Top 50 – 2014 Free Agents list.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the Buffalo Bills realize that the best course of action for them right now is to trade S Jairus Byrd.

  • Schefter adds that trade talks currently ongoing.

There has been nothing but trouble from both sides ever since the Bills opted to place their franchise tag on Byrd. He has yet to play a single down for them this season due to plantar fasciitis, but is expected to return in Week 6.
