Bills Owners Met With Some Key Players Before Firing OC Greg Roman, Rex Ryan Wasn’t Part Of Meetings

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, Bills owners Kim and Terry Pegula had private meetings with key offensive players on Friday before the team elected to fire offensive coordinator Greg Roman.

Rapoport says that the meetings were aimed to try to get an idea of what was going on while gettings comments from the players on several issues, including play-calling, to figure out what was wrong.

A source tells Rapoport that HC Rex Ryan was not in the room for these meetings and wasn’t pleased to learned of the nature of them.

Interestingly enough, a separate source suggested the Pegulas used the meetings to confirm that Ryan was considering getting rid of Roman after their Week 1 loss. However, other sources tell Rapoport that they believe the move to fire Roman was spurred by the Pegulas meeting with players and the suggestion was brought to Ryan.

Ryan told reporters on Friday that it was his decision to fire Roman, even though he wasn’t present for these meetings.

Tom Pelissero reports that Bills’ players are actually excited Roman is no longer running their offense.

Roman, 44, began his NFL coaching career with the Panthers back in 1995 as their offensive line assistant. He short stints with the Texans and Ravens before later being hired as the 49ers offensive coordinator in 2011.

Roman spent four years in San Francisco before the Bills hired him to run their offensive in January of last year.

Roman had another two years left on his contract that include $2 million per year.
