Bills Pick Up CB Stephon Gilmore’s Fifth-Year Option

Albert Breer of NFL Media reports that the Bills have exercised their fifth-year option on CB Stephon Gilmore.

Bills GM Doug Whaley confirmed that they would be picking up Gilmore’s option back in March, so this shouldn’t come as much of a surprise.

Because Gilmore was a top-10 pick back in 2012, his fifth-year option will run them $11.082 million for the 2016 season. However, this figure is guaranteed for injury only and wouldn’t prevent them from working out a long-term deal that would come with a lower cap figure.

Gilmore, 24, had another year remaining on his four-year, $12.084 million rookie contract, which includes a base salary of $2,037,839 for the 2015 season.

In 2014, Gilmore appeared in 14 games and recorded 46 tackles, three interceptions, a forced fumble and six pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the N0. 26 cornerback out of 108 qualifying players.
