Bills Place TE Charles Clay & DB Ron Brooks On Injured Reserve

The Buffalo Bills announced that they have placed TE Charles Clay and DB Ron Brooks on the season-ending injured reserve, per Chris Brown.

Clay sustained a back injury during Week 14 that has forced him out of the starting lineup since that time. It is worth mentioning that there was concern back in September that Clay’s knees could not remain healthy long-term, so some relief taken that he did not sustain a knee injury.

Clay, 26, signed a five-year, $38 million contract with the Bills back in March that included $20 million guaranteed. He’ll make a base salary of $3 million for the 2015 season.

The Bills included a $10 million roster bonus in the deal next year to go along with a $1.5 million base salary. After that, Clay will make base salaries of $4.5 million in the final two years.

He has a cap figure of $5 million for this season, but this figure ballons to $13.5 million next year and is fixed at $6.5 million in the final years of the agreement. It’s worth mentioning that there’s no guaranteed money included in Clay’s deal after the 2016 season.

In 2015, Clay made 14 game appearances for 51 catches, 528 yards and three touchdowns. Pro Football Focus ranks Clay as the No. 15 overall tight end out of 74 possible qualifiers.
