Bills RB C.J. Spiller Not Worried About Trade Rumors

Bills RB C.J. Spiller recently mentioned that he tries to block out the speculation that he could be traded before this year’s deadline.

“I block it out, man. I honestly do,” Spiller said Wednesday, via the Buffalo News. “I just focus on trying to get better at my craft. All that other stuff, if it happens, it happens. It’s not like I’m begging for it to happen. That’s something I can’t control.”

Spiller has seen his role in the team’s offseason shrink to just 12 snaps in Week 6, and his overall effectiveness remains in question as well. Of course, some of the blame falls on the Bills and their coaching staff for the way they are utilizing a dynamic player like Spiller.

Despite these issues, Spiller said he’s hoping to be a part of the team moving forward.

“This organization is going to do what’s best for the organization to be in position to win ball games and win championships,” he said. “I want to be involved in that, be a part of that here at Buffalo, but if this organization decides to go in a different direction, I won’t have any bad feelings at all. That’s part of the business. I want to be a Bill.”

A few months ago, Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports wrote that he expects the Bills to field calls for one of their running backs as injuries start piling up around the NFL.

La Canfora specifically mentioned that Spiller “could be the odd man out” and added that “trade market for Spiller could well develop over the next month.”

Spiller, 27, is set to make $1,748,750 for the 2014 season and should be a sought after player if he ends up reaching the open market next year.

Over the course of six games, Spiller has ran for 234 yards on 68 carries (3.4 YPC) while contributing 13 receptions for 106 yards receiving and a touchdown. Pro Football Focus rates Spiller as the No. 44 running back out of 56 qualifying players.

The trade deadline is less than two weeks away and while there is at least a small chance that Spiller could be dealt, there has been any positive indicators from the Bills that they are willing to go this route.
