Bills Release LB Shawne Merriman

Shawne Merriman has been a shell of his former self in recent years. He was once a dominant pass rushing linebacker with the Chargers, but his performance on the field and injury problems in the past two seasons were enough reasons for the Bills to release him today per Jay Glazer.

“Bills have informed Shawne Merriman that they are releasing him today,” Glazer tweeted.

By releasing Merriman, the Bills will save $4 million in base salary. In two seasons, Merriman had played in just 12 games with the Bills with only one sack. With the right defense scheme, there is still a possibility that Merriman, 28, is able to find a new home in the NFL.
