Bills Release Veteran C Eric Wood With Injury Settlement

John Wawrow reports that the Bills have released veteran C Eric Wood with an injury settlement on Thursday.

Back in January, Wood announced that he could no longer continue his NFL career due to a neck injury. The team scheduled a press conference in which he was expected to formally announce his retirement, but that wound up not being the case.

It was clear that this was related to the money Wood would owe the Bills if he retired, but it looks like the two parties managed to come to an agreement in the end.

Wood, 31, is a former first-round pick of the Bills back in 2009. He was in the final year of his five-year, $27.7 million contract when he signed two-year, $21.275 million extension through 2019 with the Bills in 2017.

In 2017, Wood appeared in all 16 games for the Bills and was rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 16 center out of 37 qualifying players.
