Bills Release TE Jacob Maxwell & LB A.J. Tarpley

The Buffalo Bills announced the release of TE Jacob Maxwell and LB A.J. Tarpley on Friday.

Tarpley actually announced his retirement from the NFL close to a month ago, due to concussions.

Tarpley, 23, wound up signing on with the Bills as an undrafted free agent out of Stanford back in May of last year. He has two years remaining on his three-year, $1.582 million rookie contract and was in line to make a base salary of $525,000 for the 2016 season.

In 2015, Tarpley appeared in 15 games for the bills and recorded eight tackles, a sack, two interceptions, a forced fumble, and two pass defenses.

Maxwell, 25, also went undrafted out of Louisiana-Lafayette following the 2014 NFL draft, but was signed to a contract by the Lions. Since then, Maxwell has had brieft stints with the Dolphins and Bears before returing to the Lions in August of this year.

Unfortunately for Maxwell, he was among Detroit’s early roster cuts at the start of the season. He later signed a future/reserve contract with the Bills.

Maxwell has yet to appear in an NFL game.
