Bills Reportedly Taking A “Hard Look” At TE Charles Clay

Vic Carucci of the Buffalo News reports that the Bills are “known to be taking a hard look at” Dolphins free agent TE Charles Clay.

According to Carucci, the Bills are expected to target an upgrade at the tight end position this offseason, due new offensive coordinator Greg Roman being “a big tight end guy.

Carucci mentions that other candidates for the Bills could include: Broncos’ Julius Thomas, Browns’ Jordan Cameron, and Bengals’ Jermaine Gresham.

If they were to look to the draft, Carucci suggests Maxx Williams of Minnesota and Clive Walford of Miami as two players to keep an eye on.

Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald previously reported that the Dolphins have “privately indicated” that they would like to re-sign Clay, so there’s no guarantee that he’ll even have an opportunity to field offers from prospective teams.

Jackson added that Clay is expected to receive an offer from the Dolphins in the next few weeks.

The Broncos have also come up as a speculative landing spot for Clay, so it appears as though he will be one of the more fascinating players in free agency.

Clay, 25, has played out his four-year, $2.152 million rookie contract and is set to be an unrestricted free agent this March.

In 2014, Clay caught 58 passes for 605 yards receiving and three touchdowns over the course of 14 games. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 14 tight end out of 67 qualifying players.

We have Clay listed as the No. 33 player in our Top 100 Free Agents list.
