Bills Roster Cuts Including DT Red Bryant & QB Matt Cassel

Update:

The Bills announced that they have released veteran DT Red Bryant and QB Matt Cassel, as they continue to trim their roster down to 53 players.

Other Bills cuts include:

Bryant, 31, just signed on with the Bills in August, but did not show enough to join the active roster. Bryant spent his first six season in Seattle, and played considerably well before shipping off to the Jaguars last season.

In 2014, Bryant appeared in all 16 games, accumulating 22 total tackles, 0.5 sacks, and one forced fumble. Bryant finished the season ranked as the No. 31 defensive end in a 4-3 system.

Cassel, 33, was an expected player to get cut prior to the deadline as the team prefers to move forward with Tyrod Taylor and E.J. Manuel.

The Buffalo Bills announced Friday that they’ve cut 16 players to get down to 53 before tomorrow’s deadline.

The Bills either released or waived:

The Bills announced that they’ve placed CB Leodis McKelvin on the Reserve/Non-Football Injury list, which will cost him the first six games of the season.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media is reporting that the Bills are also cutting veteran OLB Quentin Groves on Friday.

Groves, 31, is a former second-round pick of the Jaguars back in 2008. He spent two years in Jacksonville before he was later traded to the Raiders in return for 2010 fifth-round pick.

Since then, Groves has played for a few teams including the Cardinals, Browns, Texans and most recently the Titans. The Bills signed him to a contract a few weeks ago.

In 2014, Groves appeared in all 16 games and recorded 18 tackles and a sack for the Titans.

Aaron Wilson reports that the Bills have waived LB IK Enemkpali.

Enemkpali, 24, was taken in seventh round of the 2014 draft and has three years remaining on his four-year, $2.3 million rookie contract.

However, he was released shortly after he punched Jets QB Geno Smith in the face and broken his jaw. Rex Ryan wasted no time in bringing him in, as they elected to claim him off of waivers a few weeks ago.

In 2014, Enemkpali wound up appearing in six games and recorded three tackles and two pass defenses for the Jets.
