Bills Shifted Defensive Play-Calling Duties To DC Dennis Thurman

Mike Silver of NFL Media reports that Bills reduced their defensive playbook to play to the team’s strengths shortly after they fired OC Greg Roman a few weeks into the regular season.

According to Silver, the Bills actually shifted play-calling duties from Rob Ryan to DC Dennis Thurman. They also removed some of their exotic blitzes in favor of a more simplified scheme.

“Now we just line up and kick your ass,” Thurman said of the changes, per Silver.

A Bills’ player tells Silver: “I think before we were chasing ghosts. Since DT has been calling it we’re just lining up and playing.”

The Bills currently rank No. 15 yards allowed per game, No. 17 passing yards allowed per game, No. 13 in rushing yards allowed per game and No. 5 in points allowed per game.
