Bills Sign DL Red Bryant & RB Cierre Wood

The Buffalo Bills announced the signing of DL Red Bryant and RB Cierre Wood on Wednesday.

  • Buffalo also waived TE Chris Manhertz and CB Rod Sweeting to make room for their new additions.

The Bills brought Bryant in for a workout in recent days along with OLB Marcus Benard and OLB Quentin Groves, who was recently signed to a contract as well.

Bryant, 31, found surprisingly little interest as a free agent following his release from the Jaguars. While he’s not an impact pass rusher, he has been a very solid run-defender in recent years.

In 2014, Bryant appeared in all 16 games for Jacksonville and recorded 22 tackles, a half sack, and a forced fumble. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 31 defensive end in a 4-3 defense out of 59 qualifying players.

We had him rated as the No. 4 player in our Top 25 Available Free Agents list.

Wood, 24, signed on with the Texans as an undrafted free agent out of Notre Dame back in 2013. However, he lasted just a few months with the team before he was placed on waivers. Since then, Wood has played for the Patriots, Ravens and most recently with the Seahawks.

Last year, Wood appeared in three games and ran for nine yards on three carries while contributing on special teams as well.
