Bills Signing Redskins OLB Trent Murphy To Three-Year, $21M Deal

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Bills are signing Redskins free agent OLB Trent Murphy.

  • Adam Schefter reports that Murphy is signing a three-year, $21 million deal with the Bills.
  • Jenna Laine of ESPN reported earlier that the Buccaneers and Patriots were among three teams in consideration for Murphy.

Murphy, 27, is a former second-round pick of the Redskins back in 2014. He played out the final year of his four-year, $4.472 million contract and was set to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

Murphy was suspended for the first four games of 2017 for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing substances policy. He later suffered a torn ACL during the preseason and wound up being placed on season-ending injured reserve.

In 2016, Murphy appeared in all 16 games for the Redskins and recorded 47 tackles, nine sacks, three forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and a pass defense. Pro Football Focus had him rated as the No. 23 edge defender out of 109 qualifying players that season.

We had him featured in our Top 100 – 2018 NFL Free Agents list.
