Bills Still Unsure If QB Kevin Kolb Will Be Able To Play Again

Last year, the Bills signed QB Kevin Kolb to a two-year, $6.1 million contract with the thinking that he could compete for the starting job along with first-round pick E.J. Manuel.

However, Kolb suffered a concussion during the team’s third preseason game and was later placed on season-ending injured reserve.

Bills HC Doug Marrone mentioned during an interview with WGR 550 on Friday that he is still not sure if Kolb will be able to play again.

“He’s under contract and I’m not aware of really what exactly is going on right now, whether he’s planning to come back, whether he’s not going to come back,” Marrone said, via ESPN.com. “I have not been informed of anything to that nature.”

Kolb, 29, has suffered numerous concussions over his career and there was some speculation that his career could over several months ago. Kolb has a $2 million base salary next season, but the Bills will need to make a decision regarding his future with the team in the near future as he has a $1 million roster bonus due in March.

According to Overthecap.com, the Bills could free up $3.1 million in cap space by releasing him, which is an idea that has come up from beat writers in recent weeks.

I’m sure we’ll be hearing more regarding this topic in the next few weeks.
